A beautiful little lamb was born to “big mumma” the sheep today. we toasted its auspicous birth on the first day of spring, over home made carrot birthday cake after dinner, Lizzy was happy to share her birthday with the lamb but we didn’t give it any cake dispite Miryns sugestion to that effect.

I only have one photo and its not verry good, ill look for a better one tomorro, the other sheep in the pic, “lady” was very interested she helped big mumma to lick the lamb clean and stuck close all afternoon, she was a very attentive mother to pudge last season, maybe she fancys herself a bit of a midwife?

Misty mountains blooming in the rising sunshine, the view I receive upon leaving the little farm. It was a great time helping out and meeting everyone. Amazing food, excellent conversations and endless laughter caused by goofy animals, children and adults. I will miss my time here but my first week in New Zealand was well spent and this place will be in my mind constantly.

I had this crazzy thought the other day…

Imagine for a moment, a truck full of boxes of fizzy drinks. Think of the weight of them, the huge truck, idling while they unload, the petrol that is consumed to transport them from one place to another. Think of the technology involved in the dispensing machines that are being filled, the electricity that keeps them cold, the countless coins that will feed them. Think of the energy within each can or bottle, the aluminum mined and smeltered, the sugar that fills them from huge sugar cane plantations, worked by wage slaves, the cavities they will cause. Think of a worlds worth of coke trucks, fridges, cans and bottles and the billions of dollars worth of advertising to encourage us to drink it, billboards scattered over the globe. Then remember that this isn’t all we drink, think of the land deforested for coffee plantations, the acres of tea hand picked by children and grandmothers. The irrigated and over fertilized dairy farms that pollute our aquifers. The barley fields grown for beer, the glass bottles that are produced, used, and recycled, dumped, or broken on the footpath. Its almost impossible to conceive of the energy(electrical, human, fossil or calorific) and the resources involved in the production and distribution of things for people to drink when you consider that the only thing we need to drink actually FALLS OUT OF THE SKY!

So i resolved to drink only water!

…. or maybe water and vodka?
